About SSRG
The Social Services Research Group (SSRG) is a non-profit
making organisation, the purpose of which is to provide a network for research,
providing a range of
research information, planning and evaluation in social care and health
services. SSRG members are drawn from a wide range of professional groups
and organisations sharing a common interest in the work of the caring services.
SSRG aims to:
- provide a network of mutual support and a forum for the exchange
and promotion of ideas
and information on social and health care services;
- promote high standards in social and health care services research, information,
planning and evaluation;
- encourage collaboration in social and health care services activities;
- develop an informed body of opinion on social health care services activities;
- provide a channel of communication for the collective views of the Group
to central and local government, other professional bodies and the public;
- sponsor relevant research and identify neglected areas of research;
- provide, encourage and, where appropriate, sponsor high quality training
in research techniques. Where SSRG itself provides/organises such training
any surpluses generates from fee income shall be retained in order to improve
and support further similar courses as may be provided in the future.
How is it organised?
SSRG operates at two levels, executive and throughout the UK.
Executive SSRG comprises a committee of elected and selected officers, elected
members, co-opted members and regional representatives whose principal tasks
are to promote the objectives of the Group at national level, and to co-ordinate
its activities.
SSRG in the UK
SSRG in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and within the English regions
exist to provide a focus for members activities in their area.
What does it do?
The Executive Committee
- publishes a Journal and a Newsletter which are distributed free to
all members, and other publications on issues in the social care and health
services;
- maintains working links with central government departments, the Association
of Directors of Social Services, Association of Directors of Social Work
and other professional bodies;
- organises an annual three day workshop on a topical theme in social care
and health services and occasional day conferences, for which members receive
generous discounts on fees;
- co-ordinates the work of special interest groups that provide members
with an opportunity for contributing to the formulation of SSRG responses
to national policy initiatives and current issues in the social care and
health services.
SSRG in the UK:
- organise meetings focusing on the research, planning and development
of social care and health services;
- organise seminars featuring guest speakers on important topics and occasional
day workshops;
- provide mutual support for members and a forum for the exchange of ideas
and information.

Each year your membership gives you:

- Six editions of the newsletter,
- Three copies of the SSRG Journal 'Research, Policy and Planning',

- Access to the 'members only' section of the SSRG website, including access
to other members work and research findings, chat rooms, full versions
of the newsletters,
- The opportunity to comment on health and social care consultations through
the SSRG response.
Membership rates
The membership rates p.a. are:
£59 for first multiple member and £44 for subsequent member;
£54 for personal membership;
£35 for student/unwaged.
The SSRG membership is a diverse one; drawn from researchers, planners,
commissioners, policy makers and practitioners from local authorities and
health, academic institutions and the independent sector.
