Research Governance Good Practice Days

The Social Care Workforce Research Unit has been asked to commission these events by the Department of Health and has been supporting Chris Russell, who has developed the programme and will act as facilitator. SSRG was instrumental in developing the idea for the initial series of Research Governance Workshops, held in 2005, and is supporting the current series of events.
Four Good Practice Days will be held, on the following dates:
Friday 6 June London
Friday 20 June Manchester
Friday 11 July Sheffield
Friday 25 July London
Each day will run from 9.30 to 4pm.
These FREE events are aimed primarily at Local Authority personnel who are responsible for implementing Research Governance, but a limited number of places are available for other stakeholders. High quality is one of the most important targets for social care and health services. The most crucial judgement of this quality is that of people who use services themselves, followed closely by the judgement of carers.
We need practical and proven ways to involve users and carers in assessing, planning and providing quality social care without either exhausting or ”professionalizing” them
These assessments are often difficult to gather, but the importance of this information cannot be overstated if we genuinely want to achieve satisfaction with quality services.
This event will provide an overview of the key programmes that have been developed in Scotland. Examples will be described of ways in which users and carers are being involved successfully, including:
There will also be discussion of issues emerging from the user experience surveys for social care services carried out in England and Wales.
