Simon Medcalfe (DH) “I'll be setting out our consultation proposals for a new strategic approach to quality and outcomes in adult social care. I will outline our plans for an enabling framework which seeks to foster a focus on outcomes, improve quality in services, and empower citizens to hold their Councils to account for the services they provide.
It is a broad agenda founded on our principles of localism and recasting the relationship between national and local Government and people who use services. This will be part of formal consultation process running to late January 2011, through which we plan to co-produce a new agenda with the social care sector”.
Robert Lake (NHS IC) Will give a "a whistle stop tour” through the strategic direction for adult social care information and informatics. This will include the new role for the IC (as per the recent NHS White Paper), the development of the Adult Care Support Record and a section on work going forward with East Midlands Region on TRIPS
Alan Rosenbach (CQC) Will discuss the NHS White Paper and ALB review - implications for CQC, and also the proposed architecture for social care regulation, how we will get there and the leadership behaviours needed to successfully deliver the requirements.

Joint SSRG PSSRU meeting on Research Governance and Ethics in Adult Social Care, 13 October 2010’
This jointly run free event explored issues about research governance and ethics in adult social care research. It was targeted at local authority staff with responsibility for research governance and university researchers. Carol Lupton, who manages the Department of Health Policy Research Programme, Martin Stevens, SSRG Chair and Paul Dolan, representing the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services jointly introduced the Research Governance Framework Resource Pack, which was launched at the event.
There were also presentations from Chris Russell, who described the development work she is undertaking in relation to Research Governance and Rachel Taylor from Oxfordshire County Council, who described the Research Governance process in the county. Martin Knapp from PSSRU introduced the second half of the day, which included presentations on research ethics in social care from Deborah Rutter, from the Social Care Institute for Excellence, Paul Dolan and Nigel Wellman, Chair of the Berkshire and Oxfordshire NRES Research Ethics Committees, from Thames Valley University. The day closed with facilitated group discussions. A report of the event is being produced and will be posted on the site shortly.

Equalities Act 2010 - Implications for Adult Social Care Regulation and Practice

International Conference on Social Care hosted by the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The International Conference on Evidence-based Policy in Long-term Care will be held from 8 to 11 September 2010 in London. The conference will showcase presentations from more than 140 leading international researchers, academics and policy makers covering all key aspects of long term care policy. The event aims to provide a forum for exchanging the latest international evidence on key long-term care policy topics, including how to organise, deliver, fund and regulate services.
