Developing a new Carers Performance Indicator

The Department of Health has issued a paper that discusses the development of a new generic performance indicator (PI) for carers' support. DH wish to ensure that an initial, simple data collection takes place between September 04 and March 05 before the full PI comes into effect for 2005/06.

All new data collections need to be agreed with the Technical Working Group and councils should be notified 6 months in advance of when the new data collection starts.

DH wish to see the initial data collection taking place in 2004/05 for publication in autumn 2005 . This means that the timetable is quite tight. DH is seeking comments from policy leads by 7 January 2004 so any comments can be incorporated into the paper for a meeting between the carers policy group and voluntary sector organisations on 22 January.

Terry Davies, SSRG representative on the Technical Working Group has agreed to collate responses and share these with colleagues in ADSS.
